
Coralroot (Corallorhiza trifida) so called because of the shape of its rhizome and one of four species of European orchid considered to be predominantly saprophytic The others are Neottia nidus-avis, Epipogium aphyllum and Limodorum abortivum). It is a species of woodlands of pine and Spruce but is also found on dune land in Scotland in damper areas. The species is rare in the UK and has a circumboreal distribution in woodland mountain areas in in mainland Europe. Abetone, Emilia Romagna, Italy June 2021
