
Gargano Ophrys (Ophrys sphegodes ssp. ssp passionis.. also O. garganica, O. passionis) The wide strap-like sepals of this taxon (usually brownish but ovalso greenish) and the 'H' shaped speculum contribute to its distinctive appearance. The flowers shown with green speals and lighter brown lip are sometimes regarded as a seperate variety var viridis. It is common in Gargaano and other parts of S. Italy It frequents limestone soils...oilive groves, dry pastures, roadsides and light woodland from sea level to 1300m, Mt St Angelo, Gargano, Puglia, Italy April 2019
