Bramble (blackberry) Rubus fruticosa leaves in autumn. - Autumn Colours 2020
Bramble (blackberry) Rubus fruticosa leaves in autumn. Blackberry (Rubus species) is an edible fruit produced by many species in the genus Rubus in the family Rosacea. They are sometimes lumped as subspecies and microspecies within the name Rubus fruticosa) The usually black fruit is not a berry in the botanical sense of the word. Botanically it is termed an aggregate fruit, composed of small drupelets. Vigorous growth and tendency to grow unchecked if not managed correctly means that the plants are also considered a weed, sending down roots from branches that touch the ground, and sending up suckers from the roots. Podere Montecucco, Orvieto, Umbria. Italy June 2020
