Lock Down Imagery Italy 2020

On March 10th of 2020 I retuned from the UK (after a family funeral the day before) taking the last flight out of Bristol with just 7 other passengers. Lock-down in Italy began the in the next days in earnest with police checks and severe fines, masks and social distancing. Personal movements were restricted to the necessary..trips for food or medical reasons and there were police checkpoints everywhere.

The saving grace was our garden, much of which is 'wild' with paths mown through it and brambles kept at bay. We moved here in June 2004 and it had been abandoned for at least a decade earlier. Tenants were farmers but did not use fertilisers (other than animal manure)and no herbicides or pesticides were employed. We worked there everyday and were able to see things that we did not know we shared our home with. The strict lock-down lasted until mid-May and every one of our tours had to be cancelled. Our first trip, made within the confines of Umbria, our province was a blessed escape. Umbria has a wonderfully varied landscape with extensive wild areas though it lacks any sea coast....you can reach mountain heights of over 2,200m. The galleries show a range of what we were able to find
