Violet Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa violacea). Nests in wood on which its larvae feed. Non-aggressive but can sting. Adults are on the wing in summer and autumnthroughout southern Europe and again in spring after hibernation even emerging on warm winter days. Podere Montecucco, Orvieto, Umbria August 2021
