Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moth (Hemaris fuciformis) A day-flying species feeding on nectar rich flowers such as honeysuckle (the larval foodplant). When freshly emerged from the pupal stage the wings have a light covering of olive-green scales but these are quickly lost after the first flight rendering the wings transpaerent. Found in woodland rides and open grassland it is easily overlooked since its rapid flight makes it looks like a large bee or hummingbird hawk-moth. Scarce in the UK but locally frequent in the rest of Europe. Photographed nr Orvieto, Umbria, Italy July 2018
